Marc Brys
Just hours after the heavy-handed decisions by Samuel Eto'o's Fecafoot, former Indomitable Lions manager Marc Brys breaks his silence.
Yesterday, the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) stunned everyone by announcing the sacking of Marc Brys as head coach of the Indomitable Lions. This comes just 20 days before the kickoff of AFCON 2025. Samuel Eto'o had never accepted Brys' appointment by the Ministry of Sports—who hold the purse strings—against his wishes, and last month’s World Cup 2026 playoff elimination handed him the perfect excuse to fire Brys, among 11 other reasons cited.
The Belgian tactician responded to Belgian outlet Sporza, not without taking a jab at Eto’o, whom he first ironically congratulated for his re-election. "Recently, the mandate of the great president Samuel Eto’o was extended for four more years. In fact, there wasn’t even another candidate," quipped the Belgian coach. "In my view, he drew strength from this situation to carry out an illegal and ridiculous coup." he began.
Marc Brys added: "He (Eto’o, editor’s note) removed all positions at the Ministry of Sports, including the technical staff of the national team, and filled them with people of his choosing. Firing everyone without valid reason seems completely illegal to me. You can’t act like this without legitimate grounds. Right before a major tournament for our national team, he appoints people who are not prepared. They’re being thrown to the wolves. This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world."
On Tuesday, in a new interview with VTM, Brys struck a different tone and hinted he had accepted his departure: “Samuel Eto’o’s goal has always been to get rid of me. From the very first minute, he insulted me and I responded. I’ve had enough—there’s too much negativity to do a good job.”
Marc Brys has now been replaced as head coach by David Pagou, who will lead the Indomitable Lions at AFCON in Morocco.
