In the aftermath of their quarter-final defeat to Nigeria at CAN 2025, the Algerian post-match drama spilled well beyond the pitch. The Algerian Football Federation now finds itself in the crosshairs of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which has launched a disciplinary investigation into the incidents that erupted following the match.
According to referee Issa Sy's report, several players are implicated, including Zidane, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Belghali, and Hadj Moussa. The potential sanctions are severe: four to five-match suspensions and a significant financial penalty for the FAF.
On the sporting front, Algeria simply did not rise to the occasion against a superior Nigerian side. But a controversial refereeing performance and end-of-match tension fueled frustration—frustration that could now have long-lasting consequences.
