CAN 2025: CAF comes down hard on Samuel Eto’o

CAN 2025: Samuel Eto’o heavily sanctioned by CAF (official)
The Confederation of African Football has come to a decision following the incidents that marred the 2025 AFCON quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon. The disciplinary panel has handed Samuel Eto’o a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine, penalizing his conduct deemed excessive after the Indomitable Lions’ 0-2 defeat.
On January 9 in Rabat, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Eto’o vehemently expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing, confronting the authorities before Patrice Motsepe and Fouzi Lekjaa, only to be calmed by those around him. The response from the disciplinary authorities was swift.
In a statement, the Cameroonian Football Federation immediately contested the decision, denouncing a measure “lacking any explicit justification” and describing the process as rushed. FECAFOOT announced its intention to pursue legal remedies, reaffirming its full support for its president.
