While the 35th edition is still in full swing in Morocco, the 36th tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. But before that, the 12 lowest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings will battle it out in the preliminary round for six coveted spots in the group stage. They will then join the 42 teams already qualified for the group stage of the qualifiers.

The teams have been split into two pots:

  1. Pot 1: Lesotho, Burundi, Ethiopia, Eswatini, South Sudan, Mauritius
  2. Pot 2: Chad, São Tomé and Príncipe, Djibouti, Somalia, Seychelles, Eritrea

Each Pot 1 team will face off against a Pot 2 team, with the lower-ranked side hosting the first leg. The six winners will advance to the group stage and continue their quest for CAN 2027 glory. The road is long, but the African dream begins tomorrow!
