It’s been a while since we’ve had a three-way title race in Serie A. By the looks of things, this season’s Scudetto run-in will go down to the wire.

Only three points separate the leading trio going into the calendar year finale. With such fine margins at play, many fans use websites for online betting to gauge the odds in what promises to be one of the most thrilling title races in recent Serie A history.

In addition to reigning champions and betting favorites Inter, Atalanta and Napoli remain firmly embroiled in the title battle. Indeed, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men could finish the calendar year as pacesetters. However, they must beat fellow top-four rivals Lazio in their last game of 2024.

Atalanta’s potential slump at Stadio San Siro would open the door for Napoli to jump at the head of the queue. Antonio Conte’s charges languish only two points adrift of La Dea ahead of their routine-looking home fixture against relegation-threatened Venezia.

Despite trailing Napoli by a point, third-placed Inter boast a game in hand on both teams sitting above them. Simone Inzaghi’s side posted their fourth consecutive league win on Monday, beating newcomers Como 2-0 at Giuseppe Meazz.

Incredible Football

With all due respect to Inter, Atalanta’s football has been something else. With Ademola Lookman, Charles De Ketelaere, and Mateo Retegui firing on all cylinders, Gasperini’s lads have established themselves as one of the most entertaining teams in Europe, let alone Serie A.

It’s not just about winning. Atalanta often pack a punch when they win, as most recently witnessed by a 3-2 home triumph against Empoli. Despite losing Retegui to an injury in the first half, they bagged another triple, including a first-half brace from Nicolò Zaniolo and Lookman.

De Ketelaere scored a late winner, taking Atalanta’s league tally this season to a joint-high 42 goals. Furthermore, Gasperini’s free-firing squad has netted 2+ goals in 76% of their top-flight outings this season. They’ve done so in 13 matches, leaving closest competitors Inter two behind.

Winning Mentality

Last season’s incredible UEFA Europa League triumph was the perfect testament to Atalanta’s newfound status as supreme power. However, they had stuttered at the start of this campaign, losing three of their opening four league matches.

That’s a distant memory now. Gasperini’s charges have won 11 Serie A fixtures on the trot since a 1-1 draw at Bologna in late September. Along the way, they’ve dispatched heavyweights like Milan, Napoli, and Roma, showcasing a newfound ability to excel in high-stakes encounters – a notable improvement over recent seasons.

If they can maintain this trajectory, their ambitions could stretch far beyond securing a top-four finish. There’s no reason to think otherwise because this team is brimming with confidence and has one of Italy’s brightest football minds at the steering wheel.

Gasperini is currently in a league of his own. No one can touch his high-flying team in domestic action. As things stand, Atalanta could write another remarkable chapter in European football this term.
