Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko scored once again for Manchester United as he continues his excellent form since the start of the new year.
The Red Devils paid an initial £66.3 million for Sesko who, still just 22 years old, took some time to adapt to the Premier League. Sesko had shown glimpses of his talent early in the season but just bagged two goals in his first 17 games in all competitions for United.
Since then, Sesko has scored seven in his last eight games in both the league and FA Cup – a far heather return and what is to be expected from a striker of his quality.
Surprisingly, for someone nicknamed 'Air Sesko', the winner against Crystal Palace was his first headed goal in the Premier League – perhaps a sure sign that he is getting used to his surroundings. Before that, he had scored once with his left foot and six times with his right.
What United will be hoping is that these goals continue because it has been sometime since United have had someone reliably prolific.
In the 2020s, only three players have scored more than 15 league goals for United in a single season: Bruno Fernandes (18, 2020/21), Cristiano Ronaldo (18, 2021/22), and Marcus Rashford (17, 2022/23).
There have been players capable of becoming reliable goalscorers like Rashford and Anthony Martial (who got 17 in the 2019/20) season but none were able to manage the consistency that previous strikers, like Wayne Rooney, were able to achieve.
Still just 22 and now what he's made of, United will be hoping in Sesko they have found their reliable goalscorer.
