Rubin Colwill has the highest ceiling of any player currently on the books at Cardiff City.

That's according to Football League World's fan pundit for the Bluebirds, Ben Johnsey, who believes that the midfielder has the ability to play at a high level in the Premier League.

Colwill first joined the club all the way back in 2010 as an eight-year-old, before going on to make his first-team debut for the Welsh side in February 2021.

Since then, the midfielder has now made 107 appearances in all competitions for Cardiff City, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in that time.

Now, it seems as though that is leading to a growing belief that Colwill can go a lot further in his career, than playing in the Championship as he is now for the Bluebirds.

Premier League prediction made over Rubin Colwill future

With Colwill still only 22-years-old, there is of course, plenty more of his career ahead of him, than there is behind him.

Even so, he is already making his mark on the international stage, as well as at club level with Cardiff.

The midfielder has already won nine senior caps for Wales, scoring once in a friendly with Czechia, and even featuring briefly at the World Cup in Qatar back in 2022.

As a result, Johnsey is now confident that Colwill can go on to play at a high level of top-flight in the English league system, and he is still hopeful that the midfielder can do that with the Bluebirds.

When asked which player at his club he believes has the highest ceiling, the Cardiff City fan told Football League World:

"The player with highest ceiling for me is Rubin Colwill. I think he's a player that can easily play Premier League football one day.

"For me he's got the natural ability to play at the higher end of the Premier League as well, though he's just not quite realised that yet.

"But he's starting to. He's starting to show why he can be a crucial for Wales and any team that he goes to at a higher level, especially with his height and his natural ability on the ball, despite being over six foot.

"I think he's definitely a player that is of high value to Cardiff and they need to keep him for as long as possible and hopefully try and get to the Premier League with him before he's tempted away with a move."

As things stand, there are still three years remaining on Colwill's contract with the Bluebirds, securing his future in the Welsh capital until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Cardiff finished the 2023/24 campaign 12th in the Championship standings, 11 points adrift of the play-off places.

Rubin Colwill can go a long way in his career after Cardiff success

It does feel as though Colwill may well indeed be the player with the highest ceiling of those on the books of the Bluebirds right now.

At 22-years-old, he still has plenty of time to develop and improve even further, which the vast majority of his career still to come.

Meanwhile, of those currently in the Cardiff squad in that sort of age range, he is the one with the most senior experience, and who looks to have made the significant impact for the club so far.

With that in mind, it would make sense to imagine that he is the one within that squad who has the potential to go the furthest based on the current evidence.

credited with an interest in the 22-year-old.

That would suggest that if he continues to progress at the rate he, Colwill will soon attract even more interest from the top-flight in the near future.

Consequently, it could be argued that Cardiff need to enjoy and get the most out of the midfielder on the pitch, while they still have the chance to do so.
