Co-hosts get their World Cup campaign underway
Canada open their third ever World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina this evening, with Jesse Marsch’s co-hosts hoping that home advantage could see them get further than they ever have before. Les Rouges have never progressed past the group stage on the global stage, with their most recent appearance coming four years ago in Qatar.
They finished bottom of Group F in 2022, losing all three games they played against Morocco, Croatia and Belgium. Now, they will be hoping to at least reach the knockout stages, and they begin their journey at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario. This game will be preceded by a second opening ceremony of the tournament after Mexico’s last night. We will see Michael Buble headline the show, with Alessia Cara and Alanis Morissette also set to perform.
As for Bosnia, they qualified for a second tournament in their history, having appeared in Brazil in 2014. They were knocked out in the groups then, and did not reach either finals in Russia or Qatar. Follow all the updates from Toronto with our live blog below.
