Barcelona are close to bringing João Cancelo back. The club are confident of finalising the move within days, matching a key objective for sporting management and Hansi Flick to keep last season's defensive group intact.

AS reports that the Portuguese full-back will sign a two-season contract.

Barcelona and Cancelo reached an agreement some time ago, but progress slowed while the player resolved his situation with Al-Hilal, to whom he remained tied for another year.

No official figures have been disclosed, though the fee is around eight million.

Cancelo wanted to stay after his first loan. Barcelona could not strike terms with Manchester City, who then sold him to Al-Hilal.

He arrived as a winter signing last season after Andreas Christensen's injury, and his performances convinced Flick, who was desperate to keep him.

His versatility is a major appeal, with the ability to play on either flank, and his experience adds value to a Barcelona squad full of young players.
