One of Chivas’ defining traits has always been its unwavering commitment to the Cantera Rojiblanca across every level. With Tapatío serving as the final step in the development and consolidation of talent for the first team, several players are thriving — and among them, Sergio Aguayo has once again stepped forward in the CL26 as a leading presence in the young Rebaño’s attack. His rise makes it the perfect time to revisit his path and the form he is currently displaying with Guadalajara’s top Sub side.
Where is Sergio Aguayo from?
Sergio Aguayo was born on November 24, 2002, in Nevada, United States, to Mexican parents. From an early age, he developed within the U.S. amateur soccer system, sharpening his technical qualities, shaping his playing identity, and strengthening his overall skill set. After a brief stint with Pachuca, he ultimately found the ideal environment to unlock his potential in the Rojiblanca structure.
His Arrival to the Final Stage of the Cantera Rojiblanca
Aguayo joined the young Rebaño during CL25 as a new attacking option. Despite arriving after the tournament had already begun, he wasted no time proving why the Cantera Rojiblanca had identified him as a player to watch.
Playing Profile
A natural striker, Aguayo stands out for his strength in one-on-one situations, his ability to win physical duels, his clinical finishing, and his instinct for finding space inside the box. His mobility and game awareness make him a constant threat to opposing backlines, capable of operating as a lone striker or in a two-forward setup as a double 9.
His Development with Tapatío
He made his Tapatío debut in the same tournament he arrived. From his first minutes in the red-and-white, the coaching staff showed confidence in his potential — and he delivered. In that initial campaign, he featured in six matches, five as a starter, totaling 393 minutes and scoring three goals.
As the semesters progressed, his growth became increasingly evident, earning him a spot in the CL26 preseason with the first team under Gabriel Milito. During that training period, he left a strong impression on the coaching staff, who continue to closely monitor his performances.
His Numbers in CL26
In the current tournament with the ‘Tapa’, Aguayo has played five matches — all starts — accumulating 335 minutes with two goals and two assists. Notably, each of his goal contributions has directly translated into points for the Rojiblancos.
His numbers reflect both the quality in his boots and the confidence he has built, establishing himself as an important piece within José Meléndez’s squad and reinforcing his status as one of the most promising attacking figures in the Cantera Rojiblanca.
