Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City have announced the signing of former Cape Town Spurs striker Therlo Moosa on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old Centre-forward was declared a free agent by the PSL DRC like former teammates Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, who have since joined Kaizer Chiefs.

This comes after the Urban Warriors were relegated to the third tier last season, and, according to NSL rules, once a team loses its professional status, its players become free agents.

The Urban Warriors tried to dispute the rules but have so far lost all the cases, including one for Liam Bern, who joined AmaZulu.

Spurs are expected to escalate the matter as they believe they are entitled to a transfer fee for the players despite being an amateur team.

Meanwhile, Moosa will bring much-needed Motsepe Foundation Championship experience in the struggling Citizens' ranks.

The Cape club is yet to register a win in six league outings and currently rooted in the relegation zone as they occupy position 15 on the second tier standings.

City will be keen to avoid back-to-back demotions like their rivals Spurs. They visit newly promoted Midland Wanderers in their next league outing on Saturday.
