Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Cape Town City have announced the major coup of Andries Ulderink as the club's new Director of Football.

This comes after the Dutchman was initially set to coach the Citizens but abruptly left his role to join compatriot Erik ten Hag as an assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen at the beginin of the current season.

Ulderink's appointment comes at a time where the Mother City side is navigating through life in the second tier after suffering a shock relegation from the topflight last season.

“Cape Town City Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Andries Ulderink as the new Director of Football, marking a new chapter in the club's football leadership,” read the club statement.

"A highly respected figure in international football, Ulderink brings a wealth of experience from his extensive coaching and technical background across Europe and beyond. Having held key roles at clubs such as, Ajax Amsterdam, Reading FC, Royal Antwerp, Bayer Leverkusen, Ulderink's expertise in player development and high-performance structures will be instrumental in shaping the club's football future.

"In his new role, Ulderink will oversee the club's football operations, focusing on player development, recruitment and the integration of long-term football strategy across all levels of the club.

"Ulderink expressed his enthusiasm on the project ahead: ‘I’m happy to be here and ready to play my part in helping this club get back to where it belongs. City has a proud history and incredible supporters, and I'm excited to be part of the project ahead.

“The appointment of Andries marks a significant step in Cape Town City FC's commitment to technical excellence and long-term growth within South African football. The club finds itself in the prime moment to begin a genuine rebuild of its football structures, and Andries will be critical in charting that path forward for City. Andries' football vision is perfectly aligned with the club, and his experience operating at the highest levels of global football will be a massive asset for the club, its players, and the general landscape of South African football.” John Comitis, Chairman, Cape Town City FC.
