Newcastle 2 Fulham 1 – Saturday 25 October 2025 3pm

We seemed to be heading for further misery in the Premier League after a bright start that should have brought more than the one Jacob Murphy goal.

Murphy might have scored a second from a tight angle, Woltemade could have added to his impressive haul, but the woodwork denied them both.

Jacob Murphy then failed with a far easier chance than the opening goal, a great ball from Gordon sent him through one on one, only for Leno to save well.

United passed to the players in green far too often, encouraging Fulham to attack. There was no surprise when they equalised  after half-time through Lukic.

Bruno G spurned a great chance to put us back in front almost immediately when Anthony Gordon put in a perfect cross but with the goal gaping, our skipper missed with a free header from eight yards out.

Elanga and Joelinton failed to convert, Tonali forced Leno into a top save.

United belatedly rediscovered the intensity they had shown in the opening 15 minutes.

Osula replaced Woltemade as the search for a winner became increasingly desperate.

With all five substitutions on the pitch, we battered the visitors without making the pressure pay.

The lesser-spotted Great Dane was put through in the 90th minute by Elanga. Leno could do no more than push out Osula’s fierce shot and our Captain Fantastic was there to bury the ball into the Gallowgate End net.

There were some poor performances but none worse than the incompetent display by Mr Peter Bankes and his assistants.

United were far from their best. Winning when there is plenty of room for improvement is, allegedly, the sign of a good team.

We need to go out and prove we are, starting with the League Cup tie against Spurs on Wednesday.
