Captain hails André’s goal, looks to calm Corinthians’ young star

Corinthians defeated Mirassol 3-0 last Saturday, the 4th, and one of the highlights was midfielder André. The young prospect came on in the second half and scored the goal that sealed the score at Neo Química Arena. In a mixed zone interview, captain Maycon praised the youngster and spoke about the athlete’s potential.

“It’s positive, I think André has a very important playing style, I think physically he’s a very strong player. Of course, he has to improve many things, because he’s young and we try to help him as much as possible, so that he understands every moment of the game,” said the number 7.

“In fact, the players who play more, like Gui, already make slightly better decisions, and André is getting into this rhythm. Coming on during the game is very difficult, and you have to try to help as much as possible, because there’s another positioning that will go wrong, which is normal—even more experienced players make mistakes,” he added.

André has stood out in the youth categories since the under-17s, but underwent knee surgery, which sidelined him for several months. Upon his return, he caught the attention of the professional team and, since then, has been training and earning minutes with the senior squad, always coming on in the second half.

“And we try to pass this on to him, the calmness to do the best possible job. We see him training daily, he’s a player who trains very well, and he’s earning minutes because of the training he’s been doing. I think he has to reap a lot of the rewards that are happening, keep his feet on the ground, because I think scoring a goal at the Arena after, I think it’s maybe his third game, is something very important, and I think he deserves to reap these rewards,” Maycon emphasized.

After the victory and climbing up the table, Corinthians will have ten days of rest before facing Santos, after the FIFA break. The Alvinegro Derby will only take place on October 15th, at Vila Belmiro.
