Sunderland will be in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fourth-round draw, while also hosting AZ Alkmaar in a historic Europa League home tie.

The EFL have confirmed the last-16 draw will take place on Wednesday 16th September after Manchester United’s tie against Brighton and Hove Albion. Fourth-round ties are scheduled for the week commencing Monday, October 26.

Sunderland booked their place with a 1-0 home win over Hull City last week, Chemsdine Talbi finishing neatly at the Stadium of Light.

Head coach Regis Le Bris said they would go step by step in the competition, highlighting that 11 changes against Hull showed the group’s competitiveness. He felt the current pool of 22 from the Brentford and Hull games allows them to compete on all fronts for now, while injuries will be monitored.

Clubs do not earn prize money until the semi-finals, when the winning clubs receive £25,000. Beaten finalists collect £50,000, and the winners receive £100,000.

Remaining third-round ties were set for Wednesday 16th September, Coventry City v Aston Villa, Everton v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fleetwood Town v Sheffield United and Manchester United v Brighton, then Thursday 17th September, Manchester City v Norwich City. Completed ties included Sunderland 1-0 Hull City and Millwall 0-1 Newcastle United, among others.
