Carabao Cup third round matches kicked off – Not a bad night for Newcastle United fans | OneFootball

The Carabao Cup third round has now kicked off.

With 32 clubs and 16 ties to be played this month.

Those Carabao Cup third round matches split into two midweeks with matches played on four different nights.

AFC Wimbledon v Newcastle United will be played in the second midweek of matches, a 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday 24 September, only six days to go.

A lively Tuesday night seeing two Premier League clubs exit, plenty of goals scored, plus three of the games ending in penalty shootouts. Those shootouts having real extremes, with one ending 2-1, whilst another (eventually…) finished 16-15!

Not a bad night for Newcastle United fans.

One of two Premier League clubs had to exit at Goodison Park and happily it was Everton who lost that penalty shootout, that defeat going with the four losses from four in the Premier League so far this season. A huge relegation clash on Saturday, when Leicester are home to the scouse mackems, if Sean Dyche loses that one you have to think his job will be under threat. Especially after having seen his team collapse twice to lose, despite going 2-0 up against both Bournemouth and Villa.

If Newcastle United can get past AFC Wimbledon next Tuesday, then at least last night saw one bonus Premier League knocked out. Former NUFC keeper Freddie Woodman in goal as Preston beat Fulham, 34 penalties taken in total in the shootout with the home side eventually winning 16-15.

Sadly, no chance of a reunion with our old mate Steve Bruce, if Newcastle get through to the last 16. A feeble home defeat saw Brucey’s Blackpool lose 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Tonight will see at least one more Premier League club exit in the Carabao Cup third round, hopefully two…

The schedule for Round Three of the Carabao Cup and how you can watch all of the upcoming ties has been announced.

For the first time ever, all Carabao Cup matches this season will be available for fans in the UK to watch on Sky Sports. However, games will not be available to stream internationally.

Four games have been selected for coverage on Sky Sports (those marked ‘Sky Sports Football’) while the rest will be available on Sky Sports+
