Cardoso gives his opinion on his nomination for the 2025 IFFHS Club Coach of the Year award!
Due to the outstanding work the Portuguese coach has done in the past and continues to do, Miguel Cardoso has been nominated for the 2025 IFFHS Club Coach of the Year award.
This award, which includes a large number of coaches of similar level around the world, is managed by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, and it has its own special place in football in general and certainly causes a great deal of buzz every season.
The nominee list paints a picture of global footballing excellence, spanning iconic leaders from the most pressurized dugouts in Europe. It features the tactical minds behind clubs like Barcelona (Hansi Flick), Arsenal (Mikel Arteta), and Chelsea (Enzo Maresca), alongside legendary figures such as the fiery Diego Simeone and the relentless Antonio Conte.
Further elevating the award's prestige, the field includes two-time UEFA Champions League winner Luis Enrique, the highly sought-after Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso, and the promising Vincent Kompany. Amidst this constellation of international stars, the representation from African club football is notably select, with Pyramids FC's Krunoslav Jurcic standing alongside Cardoso as one of only two coaches nominated from the continent.
A wave of pride and gratitude was palpable in Cardoso's voice as he reflected on his nomination for the 2025 Club Coach of the Year by the IFFHS. He described it as a celebration of a magnificent period at FC Mamelodi Sundowns—a year defined not just by accumulating silverware and shattered records, but by a legacy of excellence and prestige built on the pitch.
"For me, this will always symbolize the collective effort of my dedicated players, the coaching staff, and the entire structure that supports us," he stated, dedicating the honor to his family with a heartfelt message. Viewing the accolade not as a final destination but as a motivator, he concluded with a forward-looking promise: "Thank you all. Let's go for more."
