Talks over a new contract for Carles Martinez Novell have yet to begin at Toulouse, but securing the head coach’s future is now the club’s next priority, according to L'Équipe.
After focusing on keeping key players during the winter window, Toulouse will turn to their coach. The Spaniard’s deal runs out in June, and strong results have kept the situation calm, with TFC two points off the top 5 in Ligue 1 and into the Coupe de France quarter-finals.
President Olivier Cloarec views stability as essential to performance. Sporting director Viktor Bezhani considers discussions with Martinez the focus in the coming weeks after a hectic window, praising subtle stylistic tweaks and the progress made by many players.
The 41-year-old arrived quietly in December 2022 on Montanier’s staff and has since imposed his ideas. League finishes have improved, 11th in 2023-2024, 10th in 2024-2025 and eighth after 20 matches of 2025-2026. He extended by one year in September 2024.
He is now among Ligue 1’s longer-serving coaches, with 105 matches in all competitions, 39 wins, 28 draws and 38 defeats. His reputation is rising domestically and he is monitored in La Liga, which could tempt personal ambitions.
On an estimated gross monthly salary of €70,000, he sits in the lower bracket for his role, a situation likely to attract interest before the summer. His good relationship with the board will also play into future negotiations. Martinez considers it normal that talks have not started during an intense window and says he will take the matter match by match while focusing on managing the team.
