Michael Carrick’s honeymoon period at Manchester United came to an abrupt end this week. The Red Devils succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle United at St James’ Park, which was their first defeat in the Premier League this year.
Carrick has been outstanding since taking charge as caretaker manager in mid-January following the departure of former head coach Ruben Amorim. The Englishman has now overseen a run of six wins and one defeat in eight games in charge.
Carrick is in charge until the end of the season, when a permanent appointment is expected. The Englishman’s recent golden run also makes him a possible candidate for the job, and his position will be strengthened if he can secure a top-four finish.
Meanwhile, United are on the lookout for candidates for the job and one man reportedly on their wish-list is former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti is one of the best managers in the history of the beautiful game, and has enjoyed successful stints with several clubs. He has won the Champions League a record five times in his managerial career, twice with AC Milan and on three occasions with Los Blancos.
The Italian has won the LaLiga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, and most importantly, the Premier League title with Chelsea. The Italian also spent another season and a half in England with Everton.

Currently in charge of the Brazil national team, Ancelotti’s vast experience and his trophy-winning credentials make him a fine choice for United. The Red Devils have struggled to find an able replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson and INEOS will be hoping to get it right this summer.
Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale, who played under the Italian manager at the Santiago Bernabeu, has now outlined why the legendary manager could be a success at Old Trafford.
Bale was recently on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, where he was asked by United legend Gary Neville if Ancelotti could be a good fit at Old Trafford or if he would struggle. The Welshman responded: “Well, he did well at Everton. I think he would do great, and he’s not just a manager.”
“He is a coach as well. He can do the tactical stuff. When his son was the head coach in his second spell, and he did a lot more tactically than we did the first time. But I think we had a better team the first time.”
“But yeah, I think he would… Wherever Carlo goes, I think he would do an amazing job just because he gets everyone on board.”
Recent reports suggest that Ancelotti is close to committing his future to the Brazil national team, which could end any speculation regarding his future. However, until he signs across the dotted line, United fans will be tempted to dream about the possibility of Don Carlo taking over at Old Trafford this summer.
