Aside from the refereeing controversy that took place at the final whistle, Sunday’s match between Valencia and Real Madrid was also overshadowed by the horrific injury suffered by Mouctar Diakhaby, who suffered a dislocated knee after an unfortunate collision with Aurelien Tchouameni in the later stages of the encounter.
Los Che have already confirmed that Diakhaby – who will undergo surgery later this week – is ruled out for the remainder of the season, and he could even miss as much as 12 months due to the severity of the injury.
Real Madrid have already been in touch with Diakhaby on multiple occasions, as was confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti (via Diario AS) in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.
“All of us have been very close to Mouctar Diakhaby. We’ve spoken to him and we’re very sorry for what happened. Injuries are unfortunately quite frequent, but I think he’s going to come back fine. We wish him all the best.”
On the match against Leipzig, Ancelotti is prepared for a difficult evening, as Real Madrid look to book their place in the quarter-final stage of the competition.
“We know that they are dangerous, I think we’re ready to show improvement. They are very dangerous in transitions, but we have Rudiger back. Only a full complete performance will make sure that we win.”
It’s certainly been a difficult time for Real Madrid, although a victory on Wednesday would certainly lift their spirits, and increase their chances of a record 15th European Cup/Champions League crown.
