Carlo Ancelotti may have just disrupted Chelsea’s Club World Cup plans with major decision

GE Globo’s report from yesterday about our interest in Joao Pedro has been rather dismantled by updates today from Ben Jacobs, but that doesn’t stop us trusting the Brazilian sports outlet in the main.

They have a report today about Andrey Santos and how his future for the Brazilian national team will be affected by the recent confirmation of Carlo Ancelotti as the Selecao’s new boss.

Ancelotti throws a spanner into the works for Chelsea’s CWC plans

Brazil’s two June fixtures.

According to Globo, Santos (who has already picked up a cap back in 2023) is on Ancelotti’s “pre-list” for Brazil’s upcoming games. That could throw a spanner into the works for Chelsea, who have been expected Santos to join up with them in London for training before heading to the Club World Cup in the USA with them next month.

Brazil’s games against Ecuador and Paraguay on the 6th and 11th of June respectively would take away a solid period of training he could have with the Blues, and might even make it pointless for him to come to the UK at all. Even if he were to fly on the 12th, he would likely only have a couple of days at Cobham before flying back over the Atlantic with the rest of the team.

Santos will arrive sometime – but possibly delayed

It should be no issue either way – Santos can join up with the group at some point and is likely to get plenty of minutes in the post-season tournament regardless. But it’s a shame for Chelsea’s plans.

Still, given that would mean perhaps picking up a second and third Brazil cap, we’re not sure Santos will mind too much. He will be hoping that he can make an important impression on both his new club and national team managers, all in the space of a few weeks.
