Summer of flux

The Red Devils lost Casemiro on a free transfer this summer, and Manuel Ugarte suffered a severe injury during the World Cup.

United first agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson but cancelled the deal after his medical results.

In July, they signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea and the Belgium captain Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

Last week, United finally agreed a deal for Carlos Baleba after chasing the former Brighton & Hove Albion player for over a year.

Baleba was officially announced at the start of the week and has spoken of his joy and determination to play for the club.

Baleba debut

The midfielder picked up an injury in pre-season, so he will not be available to slot into matches right away, such as against Ipswich Town this Sunday.

The Manchester Evening News report, “unfortunately for Baleba, his debut for United will not come this weekend. The defensive midfielder picked up an ankle ligament injury during pre-season at Brighton. This ensured he missed Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa.”

The paper adds that it is understood that Baleba could be back by mid-September.

Therefore, an optimistic date for his return could be 20th September, when United travel to face Fulham at Craven Cottage.

This is the last fixture before the three-week international break, where he could likely see action for Cameroon against Comoros and Congo.

Should he fail to make the match against Fulham, he would almost certainly be in line to play against Tottenham Hotspur on 20th October.
