Carlos Queiroz has returned as Ghana coach, signing a new contract on Wednesday after resigning following their World Cup round-of-32 exit.

The Ghana Football Association said in a statement that his international experience, technical expertise and familiarity with the Black Stars make him well placed to lead the team into a new chapter.

Queiroz, 73, had been appointed in mid-April with the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA in his sights. Ghana finished third in Group L and scored only two goals.

They went out in early July with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia, undone by a Jhon Arias strike, which sealed their exit at the coach’s fifth consecutive World Cup.

His first assignment is to qualify the Black Stars for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for 19 June to 18 July. Ghana did not reach the 2025 edition.

The contract length was not disclosed, with the role framed only as the team’s next phase.
