Haberler reports that Brazilian great Roberto Carlos has converted to Islam after reciting the Shahada in Brazil, though he has not confirmed the claim.

The 53-year-old is said to have taken the Shahada around four weeks ago during a meeting with Sheikh Jihad Hamada, a prominent figure in Brazil’s Muslim community. He is said to have been in contact with Hamada for some time before the visit.

The story gathered momentum after Turkish MP Ali Sahin posted on X about meeting representatives of Brazil’s Muslim community, including Hamada in São Paulo, during a visit to the Brazilian Charitable Union of Muslim Youth.

Carlos, who starred for Real Madrid and Brazil and later had a spell with Fenerbahce in Türkiye, has not issued a statement. Without confirmation from him, the reports remain unverified.

Separately, images of Carlos signing a marriage contract with Souhaila El Tahiri circulated online. Earlier reports had disclosed his marriage to the Spaniard of Moroccan origin, a FIFA-licensed agent, with a small ceremony on 25 July after first emerging in January. The pair are said to be continuing to collaborate on player projects between Brazil and Europe.
