Carlos Salcido says he was 'always a Chivas fan' ahead of final game | OneFootball

Carlos Salcido’s long and storied 20-year career will come to an appropriate end this weekend when his Veracruz side goes to play Chivas on Saturday in the final match of the 2019 Apertura campaign.

The 124-time Mexico international came through the Chivas academy and spent a total of 11 years with the Guadalajaran side across two separate stints and captained the side for two of those years.

The 39-year-old confessed that being able to be a professional footballer and play in three World Cups was a dream come true.

“There are moments that remain engraved in my heart, I do not distinguish them at times,” Salcido told Marca Claro.

“When I started out, I dreamt of debuting and trying to be a First Division player and I succeeded. Then I had the illusion of becoming a member of the national team and I succeeded.

“Then I wanted to play in Europe and I was able to do it (with PSV and Fulham). I wanted to play World Cups and other big tournaments, God gave me the opportunities and I took advantage of them.”

Salcido won the 2011 Gold Cup and the 2012 Olympic title with Mexico. He also won a pair of Eredivise titles with PSV, two Liga MX titles (2011 Apertura with Tigres, 2017 Clausura with Chivas), three Copa MX titles (2014 Clausura with Tigres, 2015 Apertura and 2017 Clausura with Chivas), and the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League.
