The Blues are aiming to qualify for the play-offs in their first season back in the Championship after winning the League One title in the previous campaign.

Chris Davies’ side made swift work of returning to the second tier, earning a record-breaking 111 points on their way at the first attempt.

Goals from Carlos Vicente and Marvin Ducksch secured all three points on the road, with Kenny McLean providing a consolation for the Canaries in the second half for a 2-1 scoreline.

The victory has aided Birmingham’s top six hopes, with 13 games still to play, as the Midlands outfit target a Premier League return for the first time since 2011.

This was the club’s third win in four games, as they stretched their unbeaten run to eight games in the league.

Following his goal scoring efforts, Vicente has claimed that the Birmingham squad are carrying a lot of confidence into their games at the moment, and has warned rival teams that they believe they can win the play-offs.

He claimed it will be crucial for the squad to maintain their current momentum in order to earn a top six finish, and that they’re confident of being able to secure promotion to the Premier League this season.

“The word is confidence,” said Vicente, via the club’s official YouTube channel.

“The team knows we can win a lot of games and if we get to the play-offs, we can win it.

“The team feels very confident and it's important to stay like that for all the games to get the points.”

Vicente joined Birmingham in the January transfer window from Alaves, and he bagged his first goal for the club with the opener against Norwich.

The Spaniard joined the Championship side for a reported £7 million, and he has already made quite the impact in Davies’ side.

The winger has contributed one goal and one assist from just four appearances in the league since making the move from La Liga.

Birmingham are now seventh in the second division table following their 2-1 win away to Norwich on Saturday.

The gap to sixth place Wrexham is just two points with 13 games still to play, with Hull City and Ipswich Town a further three points ahead in fourth and third, respectively.

Next up for Birmingham is a trip to face Millwall at the Den on 25 February in a 7.45pm kick-off, where the Midlands outfit will be seeking a third win in a row.

Birmingham City’s January investment is paying off

Vicente was a big financial outlay for Birmingham to make in the January transfer window, along with the arrivals of August Priske, Kai Wagner and Jhon Solis.

But their form in recent weeks indicates that the winter spending could be worthwhile, as their play-off hopes have increased dramatically.

Davies’ side are performing well, and the win away to Norwich will certainly help their confidence on the road, as their form outside of St. Andrew’s had been an issue this season.

Vicente getting off the mark at Carrow Road is exciting for supporters, and it’s no surprise that the team is carrying so much confidence into games at the moment, so you would back them to do well in the play-offs if they can get there.
