Coventry City are looking into the possibility of signing Swansea City playmaker Jamie Paterson, as detailed in a report from Wales Online.

The 31-year-old has missed out on the South Wales club’s last three matchday squads and has been restricted to a mere four starts in the Championship this campaign.

The report reveals that the Sky Blues are yet to make a formal offer for the experienced attacking midfielder, with there being a lot of interest in the Swansea man.

Sharing his thoughts on Paterson as a potential addition at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “I think it’s a good signing for both parties.

“Paterson had a blistering start to last season and was playing really, really well and then I believe there was a dispute over his contract.

“He’s not been featuring and it’s clear that Swansea are prepared to let him go on.

“Now, Mark Robins has been a big-time admirer of him and at 31 years of age, you need to be playing football.

“So I think it’d be good for both parties. Coventry are just outside the play-offs. They need to get going again and bringing in a fresh player always helps in this January transfer window.”

The verdict

Paterson would be an excellent addition at Coventry and could help the Sky Blues in their pursuit of securing a play-off spot during what remains of this season.

An intelligent, skilful attacking midfielder, he could prove to be a supplier of chances for Viktor Gyokeres, with Paterson and Joel Piroe striking an excellent partnership last season.

Still a very good player, whose contract situation at South Wales seemingly emerged as a turning point, Mark Robins could get the very best out of him.

Coventry could do with a boost in the form of Paterson, especially with Callum O’Hare currently out injured.
