Outgoing Eldense president Carolina Holguin has appealed to Lionel Messi to protect the club’s 105-year heritage after his takeover, confirming her exit and welcoming the new era.

According to Goal.com, Holguin’s tenure ended once Messi finalised control of the Spanish second-tier side. She also asked supporters to greet the incoming owner warmly from his first day. Since buying shares from Pascual Perez in October 2025, she focused on strengthening the women’s team and the academy.

In her farewell, she said handing over the reins to Messi was a source of pride and left her confident the club was in safe hands.

She urged him to care for Eldense, honour what it means to its people and aim to bring big dreams to Elda.

Reflecting on her presidency, Holguin acknowledged taking difficult, complex and at times unpopular decisions to safeguard the club’s finances. Even so, she said she is convinced what follows can be extraordinary, having passed control to a figure she regards as the sport’s greatest living legend.

Eldense now turn to the pitch, hosting Eibar this weekend. They sit 16th in the Segunda Division with five points from five matches, and a home win would be important to start climbing away from danger.
