Carrick confident Man United can compete despite spending gap | OneFootball

Michael Carrick is confident that Manchester United can compete at the top of the Premier League despite comparatively limited spending compared to rivals.

Manchester United spent around £163m on new signings during the summer, focusing on a midfield rebuild with Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans, and Andrey Santos all arriving at Old Trafford.

Their £163m spend ranked ninth for overall spending and seventh for net spend across the Premier League.

For comparison, Manchester City spent £440.3m on new signings, with Chelsea (£342.4m) and Tottenham (£334m) and Liverpool (£250.1m) all spending heavily.

Despite the larger investment from direct rivals, Carrick is confident he has put together a squad that can compete, and said success is not always about price tags.

Speaking at his pre-game press conference ahead of today’s clash with Everton, Carrick outlined his confidence in the squad.

“I certainly feel we can compete. I think the challenge is just getting the right dynamics, the right balance, getting the right group together to enhance the rest, whether you need experience, some younger players,” he said.

“The actual amount of money in the end, I understand it can be a big thing. It doesn’t always have to be the answer.”
