Carrick hails special Old Trafford as Man United beat Forest | OneFootball

Michael Carrick has said Old Trafford is ‘such a special place’ after Manchester United ended their home season with a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.

United signed off for the season on home soil with an entertaining win over Forest, as goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo sealed all three points.

The fixture also saw Bruno Fernandes make history as the midfielder equalled the Premier League’s single season assist record, after setting up Mbeumo’s goal.

Carrick is set to be named as the club’s new permanent manager, following a brilliant interim reign that has led to Champions League qualification.

The 44-year-old was serenaded by the home crowd at full-time and, addressing the crowd in a post-match speech, said it’s the supporters that makes Old Trafford so special.

“Thank you, I could listen to that (chants from the fans) all night, but we have to stop. What a way to end the season. I thought we played ever so well today. It’s unbelievable to see this place like this, it’s such a special place.

“I want to thank the staff, all the backroom staff who have supported us. The staff throughout the whole club. The effort and sacrifice everyone goes through is what makes this place so special.

“We have Tyrell [Malacia], who I mentioned to the boys before kick-off. He’s had a tough time with injuries. Please could you show your appreciation to Tyrell.

“The best thing about this place is you lot, as Case has just said.

“We’ve had some big moments and some big goals in this place over the last few months. Hopefully we have more of them. Take care and have a great summer.”
