Michael Carrick is hoping to have Benjamin Sesko fit and available to make the trip to Wearside on Saturday after his outing against Liverpool was cut short.

Manchester United’s frontman was withdrawn at the interval on Sunday and replaced by Amad Diallo due to an injury concern.

Benjamin Sesko bags 11th Premier League goal vs LFC

It came after the Slovenian had added to his Premier League account in emphatic fashion by extending the Reds’ lead over their arch-rivals to two goals inside the opening 20 minutes.

Sesko finding the back of the net for the 11th time in his maiden campaign means he has now exceeded his predecessor Rasmus Hojlund’s highest return of 10 league goals in a single season.

While he was able to enjoy the full-time celebrations with his teammates, it is said that he was left ‘in some pain’ following the injury he sustained in the first half, according to Samuel Luckhurst.

How did Sesko sustain his injury?

Sesko had been barged off the Old Trafford pitch by Ibrahima Konate, which is always a major risk for any player due to the dip between the turf and the advertising boards.

In doing so, the youngster re-aggravated an existing issue with his shin, and he was subsequently spotted ‘limping heavily’ when he made his way to the bench to watch on for the second half.

Referee Darren England opted against awarding a free-kick, much to Carrick and the supporters’ dismay, and Konate faced no disciplinary action for the shove.

No player has scored more goals since Ruben Amorim was dismissed in January than Sesko, so it goes without saying that he’d be a huge miss if he were unable to feature against Sunderland this weekend.

Sesko’s league record under Carrick

Even though United’s sole goal of qualifying for the Champions League is now fulfilled, Carrick and his men will be keen to send a message to the rest of the division by maintaining their stellar form in the remaining three fixtures.
