Carrick’s unbeaten run shattered by 10-man Newcastle
Manchester United lost 2-1 to Newcastle United marking their first defeat under coach Michael Carrick in Premier League.
Manchester United suffered a late defeat against Newcastle United at St James' Park in round 29 of Premier League.
Newcastle were reduced to 10 men after Jacob Ramsey received a second yellow card in first-half stoppage time. Despite the setback, the home side managed to take the lead minutes later.
Newcastle opened the scoring through a penalty converted by Anthony Gordon in the sixth minute of added time.
However United responded quickly. Just three minutes later, Casemiro equalized after precise assist from captain Bruno Fernandes making it 1-1 before halftime.
In the closing moments, United pushed forward searching for a winner. But Newcastle struck on the counter-attack.
William Osula finished a fast break with a strong shot in the 90 minute beating goalkeeper Lamins and securing a dramatic 2-1 victory.
The result marks the first defeat for United under Michael Carrick since taking charge.
After the loss Manchester United remain on 51 point sitting third in the table, level on goal difference with fourth-placed Aston Villa.
Newcastle move up to 39 point, climbing to 12th place in the standings.
