Carsley claims English talent is ‘taken for granted’ after U21s sail through to Euros final | OneFootball

England U21s sailed through to the final of the U21 European Championships with a 3-0 win over Israel, prompting boss Lee Carsley to claim that the level of talent produced in England is “often taken for granted”.

Following an early setback when Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White missed a penalty, the Young Lions responded in fine fashion when Gibbs-White made amends by putting his side ahead before half-time.

And goals from Man City man Cole Palmer and Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer sealed the win for England, who will face either Spain or Ukraine in the final.

“We sometimes take for granted the level of players we’re producing,” Carsley claimed afterwards.

“I still think we’ve got a lot of improving to do. There’s still another level for this team to go.

“They’ve really grown as a group and they’re getting everything they deserve.

“I’m so, so pleased for them because I’m a big believer that we’ve got so much quality and they just need the opportunity. To watch how they’ve developed on and off the pitch has been brilliant.

“These young players’ mentality is different to my generation. Curtis (Jones) gives the ball away and just wants to get on it again, he doesn’t even think about it. Morgan is the same.

“It’s such a skill to have, that self-belief. The players know we believe in them, we want them to do well.”

Gibbs-White enjoyed a fine end to the season with Forest as his form helped Steve Cooper’s side to secure Premier League survival and ccontinues to impress, but the forward insists the focus is now on the final.

“We’ve been working for the past two years just to get to this moment,” he said.

It’s not an achievement yet, we still have loads of work to do. I feel like we have a good together team and the right team that can go all the way.”
