The end of Casemiro’s Manchester United career is drawing near, and his next destination is becoming clearer by the day.
The Major League Soccer (MLS) club are the favourites to secure his services when his contract expires on June 30.
Although Los Angeles Galaxy hold Casemiro’s discovery rights, the former Real Madrid midfielder is particularly attracted to a potential switch to Miami.
The reigning MLS champions sent their first proposal to Casemiro’s camp in late March, eager to add a long-term veteran presence in midfield, especially after Sergio Busquets’ departure.
A move to Florida would reunite Casemiro with Lionel Messi, a longtime rival at both club and international levels, with whom he has shared some defining moments in a glittering career.
However, there are financial complexities. Miami currently have three designated players in their squad and cannot spend big on a fourth under MLS salary cap rules.
Casemiro would need to accept a substantial wage reduction to finalise a deal. He currently earns £375,000 per week at United, so a special arrangement would likely be needed to bridge the gap.
He has been one of United’s better performers in recent months, but the club will not make a U-turn on his impending exit.
They are planning a midfield rebuild this summer. Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
