Cash strike earns Villa well-deserved win over Man City | OneFootball

Aston Villa earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Villa Park, with Matty Cash’s superb first-half strike proving decisive.

Unai Emery’s side were sharp and disciplined throughout, while City looked off the pace and failed to turn long spells of possession into chances.

The breakthrough came after 19 minutes when a short corner worked to Emiliano Buendía found Cash on the edge of the box, and the right-back fired low past Gianluigi Donnarumma into the bottom corner.

City’s best opening came soon after as Erling Haaland’s low effort was denied by Emiliano Martínez, but from then on the visitors struggled to create much of note.

Savinho went close after the break, only for Pau Torres to clear off the line, and Haaland’s late tap-in was ruled out for offside.

Villa move up to seventh with a fourth straight league win, while City’s nine-game unbeaten run comes to an end.
