New Lazio signing Gaetano Castrovilli has reportedly returned to group training after recovering from a recent injury.

The Italian signed for the Biancocelesti as a free agent last month after ending his collaboration with Fiorentina. The 27-year-old was once considered among the most promising up-and-coming midfielders in Italy, He was even a member of the Azzurri squad that lifted the Euro 2020 trophy three years ago, though he played a marginal role during the tournament.

But sadly for the Bari youth product, a lengthy injury nightmare hindered his momentum. He has been struggling to remain fit over the past two years, which eventually led to his Fiorentina departure. Luckily for Castrovilli, Lazio decided to bet on his talent, offering him a three-year contract.

However, his time at Formello started with yet another injury, albeit a small one. The midfielder thus played solely a few minutes in the opening matchday of the season which ended with a 3-1 victory for the Aquile over their visitors Venezia, entering the field in the 87′.

Lazio were the heavy favourites to beat the newly-promoted side according to all renowned bookmakers, including 1x Bet, so Castrovilli’s services weren’t needed too much on that occasion. Nevertheless, sterner tests await Marco Baroni’s men, beginning with an away trip to Udine this weekend, followed by a home encounter against AC Milan on August 31st.

Therefore, the Lazio coach will need the services of every player on the roster, including Castrovilli. And luckily for the Biancocelesti, the former Fiorentina man has returned to group training as reported by La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Castrovilli Returns to Lazio Team Training

The Italy international will earn a call-up for the match, as he should be fit enough to start on the bench in this Saturday’s encounter against Udinese. On the other hand, Mario Gila remains the only absentee in the first team. The Spaniard sustained a muscular injury during pre-season.

The report also expects Baroni to maintain the same attacking trident, with Taty Castellanos spearheading the team’s charge, flanked by Tijjani Noslin and club captain Mattia Zaccagni.

However, the middle of the park could feature a change in personnel, with Matias Vecino replacing Nicolo Barella. The experienced Uruguayan will play as a deep-lying playmaker, supported by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Matteo Guendouzi.

As for the fullback roles, Nuno Tavares is unlikely to be fit enough to start, so Baroni should once again pick Adam Marusic and Manuel Lazzari. Alessio Romagnoli will certainly start at the heart of the defense, while Patric will be hoping to overtake Nicolo Casale for the other starting berth.
