The club with an official announcement (see below) regarding the Newcastle United Women’s team.
NUFC revealing that the Newcastle United Women’s Academy has been awarded a Category One Professional Game Academy license.
A lot happening on the Newcastle United Women’s side of things, as well as this Academy announcement.
After a 2024/25 season of consolidation after consecutive promotions, every chance of the NUFC Women’s team now making it to the Super League.
The top tier is increasing from 12 to 14 clubs and so the 2025/26 season will see the top two (instead of just the top one) of the women’s second tier automatically promoted, whilst a third team could also be promoted, as they will have a play-off against the club that finishes bottom of the Super League next season.
Newcastle United official announcement – 22 July 2025:
The Magpies’ Professional Game Academy will operate at Under-21s and Under-16s level, competing against other PGA sides from across the Barclays Women’s Super League and WSL2.
The Under-21s will operate off a full-time schedule and compete in the PGA League, the PGA Cup and the County Cup, while the Under-16s will compete in the JPL Warriors, JPL Cup and PGA Youth Cup. Both teams will also participate in a bespoke games programme to enhance their development.
As part of the license, the players will receive support from several full-time dedicated staff in a variety of roles, with the ultimate aim of creating a pathway for players to compete at the highest levels of the domestic and international game.
