According to Coluna Do Fla, the CBF has appointed Rio de Janeiro official Alex Gomes Stefano to referee Flamengo v Botafogo on 30 this month at 16:00 Brasília time. The derby at the Maracanã is in the 25th round of the Brasileirão. The remainder of the officiating team is still being assessed.
It will be Stefano’s third Flamengo match of 2026. He previously handled Carioca fixtures against Fluminense and Sampaio Corrêa-RJ.
Flamengo lost the clássico to Fluminense 2-1, then thrashed Sampaio Corrêa-RJ 7-1. He also took charge of a 3-0 Flamengo win over Botafogo in last year’s league, which ended with a Rubro-Negro title.
Stefano’s most recent assignment was Athletico-PR v Bragantino in round 23, a 1-1 draw. That match passed without refereeing controversy.
Before Botafogo, Flamengo face Cruzeiro twice in succession. The first meeting is the Libertadores last 16 second leg on Wednesday 19 at the Maracanã, 21:30 Brasília time, with the tie level at 1-1.
They then visit the Mineirão to play Cruzeiro in round 24 of the Brasileirão on Saturday 22 at 20:30 Brasília time. Preparations for the Botafogo clássico follow.
