CBF recognises refereeing errors in Grêmio’s 1-0 defeat to Bragantino | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, the CBF Ombudsman has recognised refereeing errors against Grêmio during their 1-0 loss to Bragantino on 23 August in Bragança Paulista, a match in the 24th round of the Brasileirão.

Grêmio sent a formal letter to the CBF after the game. The club’s main complaint focused on a move 28 minutes into the second half, when Braithwaite finished and found the net, only for the referee to disallow the play for an earlier offence.

At the start of the sequence, Diego Caito challenged an opponent and referee Felipe Fernandes de Lima awarded a foul against the Grêmio full-back.

The CBF concluded the foul should not have been given, and that officials also erred by failing to allow the move to finish before any VAR review. The refereeing department does not see an issue with acknowledging mistakes when they occur.

No disciplinary action will be taken against those involved. The assistants were Guilherme Dias Camilo and Henrique Neu Ribeiro, with Rodolpho Toski Marques on VAR duty.

After the defeat, Grêmio executive Paulo Pelaipe issued strong criticism of the officiating, arguing incompetent referees should be punished, retrained and even demoted to lower divisions, and that the team’s defeat was down to the refereeing.

The Ombudsman is a CBF department that maintains dialogue with clubs and receives officiating-related queries.
