CBF unveils 2026 women's football calendar: more clubs, matches and prizes

On Monday (24), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced the complete plan for women's football for the 2026 season, along with projections for the championships until 2028. During the event organized by the entity, changes were confirmed in all national competitions, including adjustments in formats, an increase in the number of participating clubs, more broadcasts, and new prize values.

With this, Corinthians already knows the dates and the planned changes for seven tournaments organized by the entity. The former player and coordinator of women's competitions, Aline Pellegrino, presented the main changes, which include the expansion of series A1, A2, and A3, as well as the Copa do Brasil; the increase in the number of matches; and the adjustment of quotas in all categories. Aline also confirmed that 100% of the games of the Brasileiro A1, Copa do Brasil, Sub-20, and Sub-17 will be broadcast on the CBF's official channels.

One of the main measures highlighted by the CBF was aimed at lactating athletes: now, children can accompany players on trips, with expenses covered by the entity. Another announced change is the requirement for professional contracts for all Serie A1 athletes starting in 2027.

Supercopa do Brasil

Corinthians' 2026 season will begin with the Copa das Campeãs, with the first match scheduled for January 28 in London, England, against Gotham FC from the United States. Then, on February 8, the team will face Palmeiras in a single match for the Supercopa do Brasil, with the location and time to be determined after a CBF meeting with the clubs.

Corinthians enters the competition as the 2025 Brazilian champion, while Palmeiras won the Copa do Brasil. The prize amounts have been updated: the winner will receive R$ 1 million, and the runner-up will get R$ 600,000. In 2025, the prize amounts were R$ 700,000 for the champion and R$ 500,000 for the runner-up.

Brasileirão Feminino Série A1

The Brazilian Championship will start on February 15 and is expected to end on October 4. The 2026 edition will feature 18 teams, compared to 16 in the previous season, and will have 167 games, spread over 23 dates. The base dates remain Sundays and Wednesdays, maintaining the format with round-robin and knockout stages.

Participation quotas have been adjusted to R$ 720,000 per club, which is double the previous amount. Prizes have also been increased: the champion will receive R$ 2 million, and the runner-up R$ 1 million. Games selected as the first choice for national broadcast will have an additional R$ 20,000 per match.

The competition will continue without matches scheduled for the day before or the final day of FIFA dates and will continue to guarantee two spots for the 2027 Libertadores.

Copa do Brasil Feminina

The Copa do Brasil will start on April 22 and is expected to end on November 15. The tournament will feature 72 matches, compared to 64 in the previous edition, and from the quarter-finals onwards, all stages will be played in home-and-away matches.

The format for club entry has been maintained: Serie A3 teams start in the first phase, A2 teams enter in the second, and A1 teams begin in the third. In total, 66 teams will participate in the competition.

The quotas have been doubled compared to the previous cycle. In 2025, the amounts ranged from R$ 25,000 (first phase) to R$ 100,000 (final), in addition to the prizes of R$ 1 million for the champion and R$ 500,000 for the runner-up. In 2026, all values will have a proportional increase.

Brasileirão Feminino Sub-17 and Sub-20

For the Sub-20, the competition will take place between March 8 and May 28. The main change is in the final, which will be played in two matches. The base dates remain Thursdays and Sundays. The Sub-17 championship will be held from May 30 to August 29, starting right after the end of the Sub-20. As in the higher category, the final will now have two matches. Both categories received a 10% quota adjustment.

Liga Sub-14 and Sub-16

The youth competitions remain on the calendar, scheduled to take place between March 23 and 29. The format has not changed, and winning the tournament guarantees a spot in the Conmebol Festa Evolução.
