CD Castellón have lodged an appeal against Agustín Sienra’s second yellow card from the match at UD Las Palmas, El Periódico Mediterráneo reports, ahead of Saturday’s meeting with leaders Racing de Santander at SkyFi Castalia.
The Argentine defender was cautioned in the first half for a challenge on Viti that led to the penalty for 1-0. The second caution, for a foul on Pezzolesi minutes before Brignani’s equaliser, has sparked debate and the player protested on the pitch.
The club have filed the appeal through the regulatory channels. If it succeeds, Sienra would be available to Pablo Hernández for the Castalia clash. Referee José Antonio Sánchez Villalobos set out his reasoning for the bookings in the match report.
Ousmane Camara will serve a one-match ban after a fifth booking for applauding the referee. The only injury absentee remains long-term, Douglas Aurélio.
Racing lead on 50 points, with Castellón on 49. Racing reclaimed first place on Sunday by beating Burgos 1-0. Castellón had led Segunda for a week, their first time atop the division in more than 33 years.
Kick-off is 21.00. To return to the summit, Castellón must beat Racing. If the game ends level, Castellón could slip to third if Almería, currently third on 48, win at Albacete on Friday to reach 51, matching Racing.
The ‘gol average’ could prove decisive come the end of the season. Racing’s 3-1 win on the opening day at El Sardinero gives them the edge, so Castellón must win by two to level it and by three to overturn it.
