Eibar’s 3-1 win over Las Palmas on Sunday ensured CD Castellón will spend another week in the Primera División play-off places, making it 17 in a row. Despite a smaller budget and less experience, it underlines a season of real merit.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Pablo Hernández’s side hit the play-off spots in November after winning at Andorra and have not moved since. They stayed there through December to March, seven matchdays in automatic promotion. It is their second season at this level after a 2024 promotion from Primera RFEF.
An early-season cushion has helped absorb a lean spell. Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Albacete made it six without a win, yet a stronger second half at Carlos Belmonte prevented defeat and bought time for a reset.
Castellón now host Almería on Maundy Thursday at 20.00, then Granada on Easter Monday at 19.00 at SkyFi Castalia. That sequence will go a long way to determining their run-in. As all season, they will have their fans behind them.
With 10 rounds left, they are well placed. Hernández loses holding midfielder Beñat Gerenabarrena after his red card at Albacete, but regains playmaker Álex Calatrava from suspension. Congolese winger Brian Cipenga and Australian Awer Mabil remain away on international duty.
