Álex Calatrava set up one and scored another in Anduva as CD Castellón delivered a mixed display. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Jakobsen also found the net, while a late Matthys save avoided defeat.

In a first half of little work, Matthys was later beaten in two one-on-ones, then produced a key stop at the end. Mellot was outstanding before being sent off, similar to his dismissal in Gijón.

Brignani was stiff for the opener and suffered in open space, though he nearly scored from a corner. Alberto was composed on the ball and drove forward, but at 2-2 he perhaps could have protected his back better.

On his return to the XI, Lucas Alcázar was intense, threatened in attack and then filled in as a third centre-back after Mellot’s red. Diego Barri shone early, struck the bar, then found it hard to stem counters in space.

Gerenabarrena impressed during the side’s best spell, winning the ball and circulating it cleanly. Pablo Santiago maintained his form and curled a sweet cross for Camara.

Calatrava delivered a complete performance, creating numerous chances on top of his goal and assist. Jakobsen continued his upward run, nipping in front of the defence to score and linking attacks with purpose.

Camara contributed in open play and fought as usual, but it was not his day, with three notable misses, one to tap in, one with his foot and a final header. From the bench, Mabil worked his flank during the numerical disadvantage.

Cipenga was direct and motivated on his return to albinegra duty, the sharpest late attacking threat. Doue was erratic but aided Barri in midfield, while Álvaro tried from range and offered good movement.
