CD Castellón secure Rodrigo Rego loan after Brighton buy from Benfica | OneFootball

CD Castellón have completed the signing of Portuguese attacking midfielder Rodrigo Rego, who will spend next season on loan at SkyFi Castalia. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he joins from Brighton & Hove Albion, who have just bought him from Benfica.

Left-footed, 1.73 metres and technically gifted, he is most at home off the right or as an interior, driving inside to thread the final pass or shoot. He is noted for quick changes of tempo, close combinations and beating opponents one on one.

Rego started out in Aveiro, then spent much of his academy time with Porto, followed by spells at Padroense and Famalicão. He moved to Benfica in 2022/23, progressing through the under-19s, under-23s and the B team before a senior chance.

He made his Benfica first-team debut on 21 November 2025, playing all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Atlético CP in the Portuguese Cup, and was voted player of the match by fans. Last season he featured in four further first-team games, including a Champions League debut, and made 21 appearances for Benfica B.

His rise also brought a Portugal under-21 call-up. Brighton have tied him to a deal until 2031 and view the loan as the next step in his development with an attack-minded Castellón side.
