According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, CD Castellón have sealed the signing of Álvaro García from Mérida, the 26-year-old leading scorer in Primera RFEF. He will wear black and white.
García has scored 13 this season for Mérida, 12 in the league. This run marks his full breakthrough after 17 for SD Logroñés last term. He stands 1.92 metres tall.
Castellón value his potential and immediate impact, and he is set to provide a complementary option to Ousmane Camara and Adam Jakobsen.
Born in Colindres in October 1999, he came through Racing de Santander, then Tropezón and Colindres, before debuting for Laredo in the old Segunda División B with 25 games and five goals.
He later played for UE Costa Brava alongside current Castellón playmaker Álex Calatrava, returned to Laredo, then moved to Arenas de Getxo and SD Logroñés, before shining at Mérida.
Several Segunda clubs, including Córdoba and Granada, had tracked him. Ideal reports that Granada’s poor league position affected the final details of a possible agreement.
He is Castellón’s third winter addition after wing-back Raúl Sánchez from Necaxa and defender Ismael Fadel. He replaces forward Nick Markanich, loaned to Houston Dynamo.
