CD Castellón have signed midfielder Matías Orozco on loan from Brighton.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the 18-year-old Colombian arrives at SkyFi Castalia after just agreeing a five-season contract with the Premier League club, who paid almost five million euros.

Born in Barranquilla in December 2007, Orozco has already featured for Colombia at under-21 level. He came through at Deportivo Cali, operating mainly as a pivot, and is viewed as one of the country’s standout prospects.

His arrival comes only hours after Marco Doué was sold to Cádiz for half a million euros. Castellón’s midfield group now includes Diego Barri and Jari Vlak, with Álvaro Martín also filling the role in a more creative guise.

Tony Bloom’s Brighton are among the pioneers in the use of big data in professional football, and have grown in recent years through significant transfers. The relationship with Castellón is not new, with the English club also loaning the Portuguese Rodrigo Rego this season.
