Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has addressed his and Khalil Ben Youssef's uncertain future at the helm of the club following the Soweto derby mauling by Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys were hammered 3-0 by their arch-rivals, and have dropped to fifth place on the Betway Premiership table, having amassed 30 points in 17 league outings.

When pressed on whether calls for their sacking are justified, Kaze refused to delve deep into the matter, stating that his charges have to recall the basics of football to return to winning ways.

“I would not answer that because that's not up to me, but I believe that coaches are here because they are trusted by the management and it's true that we have been in a series of bad results,” said the Burundian tactician.

"But I believe that there are things that have worked in the past few months and that we need to remind ourselves of, we need to remind the players what has worked, for example, in the first phase of the league and probably come back to the basics of football - how we defend well, how we don't concede if we don't score - things like that and that's the only way to go forward.

The CAF A License holder went on to shoulder responsibility for the back-to-back defeats to Pirates and Stellenbosch, and clarified the tactical decision to start neither left-back Paseka Mako and Bradley Cross in the derby.

“I'm not a coach of finding scapegoats in my players, and I take full responsibility of what happened today [Saturday] and what happened against Stellenbosch. I'm pretty sure that we're going to find our way back to winning ways,” Kaze added.

"First of all, Bradley Cross was there as a centre-back because there is no other centre-back available - Given [Msimango] is injured, [Rushwin] Dortley has been injured for quite some time and Mako was there as a left-back because Aden [McCarthy] has been lately playing as a left-back, that's the reason behind that.

Chiefs return to Betway Premiership action with a clash against Richards Bay at a sold-out uMhlathuze Sports Complex on Tuesday.
