Celta Vigo have submitted a formal bid to Club América for Sebastián Cáceres, worth around five million euros, with his contract to 30 June 2027 shaping negotiations, according to La Colina De Nervion.
América are assessing the offer for the Uruguay defender, who arrived from Liverpool Montevideo in January 2020 and has since spent more than six years in Liga MX.
From the first of January 2027 the centre-back can sign a pre-contract with an overseas club, entering the final six months of his deal. With a little over four months to go, América can still secure a significant fee.
Head coach Claudio Giráldez said on 21 August he wanted three additions before the deadline, in this order: right-sided centre-back, defensive midfielder and attacking player. Cáceres fits the first brief, he is right-footed, 27, and featured for Uruguay at the 2026 World Cup. Balaídos executives have rebuilt the defence and a centre-back slot remains.
After the Leagues Cup tie with Columbus Crew, Cáceres described the proposals to leave América as a reality. He stressed his focus on his current team, though Vigo’s offer is the most concrete step so far.
The coming four months tilt towards Celta. They want a right-sided centre-back now, not in 2027. América still have a window to monetise an important player before the first of January shifts his contractual position, and the valuation reflects that timing.
