Manchester United have reached a loan agreement with Celta Vigo for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, with the 28-year-old Turkish international set to travel to Spain once documentation is exchanged and final details are completed.

Spanish journalist Alberto Bravo reported on August 1 via Metropolitano.gal that negotiations between the three parties – United, Celta, and Bayindir’s camp – had progressed satisfactorily in recent days. According to that reporting, the clubs would exchange documentation over the weekend, with Bayindir then able to travel to Vigo the following week.

Bayindir has found meaningful minutes impossible to come by at Old Trafford, with limited opportunities behind the first-choice goalkeeper. This summer, United signed Karl Darlow – who will slot in as number two under Michael Carrick – while Senne Lammens is the undisputed first choice. That left Bayindir further behind in the pecking order, and the writing has been on the wall for some time.

Bravo also noted that Bayindir’s United contract runs to 2027, with a one-year club option available. However, Bravo wrote that it seems complicated that United will exercise that option, meaning the loan could lead to a permanent move at the end of the season, with Celta potentially reaching an agreement to sign him outright.

United Frustrated by Loan-Only Structure

This is not the exit United wanted. The club would have preferred a permanent sale, and journalist Chris Wheeler reported on August 1 that United sources confirmed Celta’s interest while stressing the agreement was not yet done. Journalist Samuel Luckhurst added that another club has offered to buy Bayindir outright – a detail that underlines United’s frustration at being pushed toward a loan-only structure.

It is a familiar tension at the club this window. United have been pushing for permanent terms on outgoing deals, and the Bayindir situation fits an uncomfortable pattern of the Reds being unable to convert surplus players into clean sales.

Orlando Gill Earmarked as Replacement

With Bayindir heading out, INEOS have identified Paraguay international Orlando Gill, 26, as a potential addition to the goalkeeping department. Gill’s agent Mario Jara told DSports Radio that there had been enquiries from United and that a sale was close, with talks also ongoing with clubs in Germany. Jara described Gill as prepared to step up to any league without hesitation.

The San Lorenzo keeper impressed during Paraguay’s 2026 World Cup campaign, and United are said to have been hugely taken by his performances. Whether Gill arrives as a genuine long-term project or merely third-choice cover will define how seriously INEOS view the position heading into Carrick’s first full season.
