Martin O’Neill signed off his temporary spell in charge with a slender but well deserved win over Dundee at Celtic Park, after a brave first half header by Daizen Maeda proved the difference against a dogged Dundee side.

In the end it would prove a vital win as Hearts dropped two points at home to Kilmarnock, which means we are now level on points with the Jambos, with a game in hand, and of course host Derek McInnes side on Sunday afternoon. And just for the laughs Martin also managed to increase Celtic’s considerable advantage over the theRangers.

Martin O’Neill now passes the reins to Wilfried Nancy

In fact in a night where there was a full Scottish Premiership programme on Martin O’Neill’s Celtic managed to collect three points so he actually increased Celtic’s standings against every side in the league as he signed off as Celtic boss, passing the reins to our new manager Wilfried Nancy who was officially announced just before kick-off last night.

In all honesty, it was a hard watch, and whilst we played well in spells, we didn’t look at our best, with blood pressures rising as time ticked away, as we never looked like scoring that decisive second goal. This was Celtic’s third game in six days so it’s entirely understandable that the the energy levels were now at their best but as Martin said afterwards winning the match was the most important thing.

In the end it didn’t matter, we got what we needed and we won our fifth consecutive game on the trot to put us in a good place for Sunday’s top of the table showdown with Hearts, in what will be Wilfried Nancy’s baptism of fire.

Martin O’ Neill – Didn’t He Do Well?

Martin O’Neill certainly signed off in style, and can be proud of his short spell in charge. Seven wins out of eight. From eight points adrift, to joint top with a game in hand, a cup final place booked by giving us our first win over theRangers in 2025, and an impressive away win in the Europa League in Rotterdam, as he hands over the baton to the Frenchman, Wilfried Nancy.

Thank you Martin, your efforts have been very much appreciated.
